At 4 AM, Nicole gets the news that her daughter Lacey was found barely alive in the woods, covered in blood, next to her friend’s husband who’d been stabbed 44 times. And ever since that night, Lacey hasn’t said a single word. Not to cops, not to her husband, not even to her own mother. 

Now Lacey’s locked up, her three children are stuck with an unreliable father, but Nicole knows her daughter. She’s no killer. That silence isn’t guilt; it’s pure fear. Whatever went down in those woods scared her more than prison ever could. So Nicole starts digging and quickly learns some secrets that destroy everything.

If you’re only here for a straight-up "whodunit", this might surprise you. The mystery bits are totally addictive, creepy, and page-turning, but the real heart here is family relationships. Nicole’s love for Lacey, and Lacey’s bond with her son Dylan. That’s what makes this story hit so different.

Every character feels so real; no one’s just “good” or “bad,” everyone’s messy and complicated. Told through different points of view and timelines, you really get inside everyone’s heads, and I felt every single emotion right along with them.

Dylan was easily my favorite character. He was so young when everything happened, so frustrated he couldn’t help his mother, but years later, he steps up as his family’s rock. I loved watching that arc so much!

I picked this up because the cover and book description caught my eye, plus everyone was talking about it, and it did live up to all the hype! It’s easy to read, packed with twists, and so much deeper than other thrillers I've read before. It’s all about sticking by the people you love, dealing with trauma, and how far we’ll go to protect our own.

This one’s going straight on my favorites list with its fast-paced, powerful, and totally unforgettable story. Highly recommended!
